The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Gender & Development

The Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Gender and Development is designed to expose candidates to gender and development issues and to provide opportunities for advanced professional development in various sectors from gender and development perspectives. The Specific Objectives of the Postgraduate Diploma programme include; (i) the exposure of candidates to gender and development issues; (ii) providing opportunities for advanced professional development in various sectors from gender and development perspectives; (iii) building skills in gender analysis and gender diagnosis of development; (iv) building the capacity of candidates to analyze global gender frameworks, including the gendered impact of globalisation, on African development and; (v) building the skills of candidates in gender mainstreaming in the specialised academic fields.

M.Sc in Gender & Development

The M.Sc. programme in Gender and Development is designed to introduce candidates to gender issues, and help build capacity and skills to understand various disciplines and specializations from gender perspectives. The main goal of the programme is to enhance the capacity of candidates to understand, analyse, and apply gender issues and methodologies to various specialisations. The specific Objectives of the M.Sc. Programme are to; (i) to train requisite human resources for academic institutions, government, and the private sector in the area of Gender and Development; (ii) to expose candidates to advanced philosophical basis, theories and methodologies of gender and development; (iii) to enhance the application of gender frameworks in academic, research, policy and planning for development; (iv) to improve the skills of candidates to conduct interdisciplinary research on critical areas of women and gender issues and to utilise the findings to promote social change and; (v) to develop candidates’ skills in identifying and analysing gender issues in specialized fields of development

Ph.D in Gender & Development

The Ph.D. Programme in Gender and Development aims to build advanced knowledge in Gender and Development and thereby provide much needed human resource capabilities in gender and development for government, individuals, NGOs, educational institutions, the private sector, development partners, and the nation as a whole. The Ph.D. in Gender and Development is designed to introduce students from a wide variety of academic backgrounds to the traditions, methods and frontline research that shape gender and development analyses through seminars, lectures and close personal supervision. In other words, the Ph.D. in Gender and Development studies are theoretical, methodological and practical. The specific objectives of the PhD programme are; (i) to expose candidates to advanced philosophical basis, theories and methodologies of gender and development; (ii) to enhance the application of gender frameworks in academic, research, policy     and planning for development; (iii) to build the capacity of candidates to analyse global gender and development issues, including the gendered impact of globalisation, on  African development; (iv) to provide a framework within which gender, women and developmental issues         can be analysed from a Nigerian/African perspective and;  (v) to improve the skills of candidates to conduct inter disciplinary research on critical areas of gender issues and to utilise the findings to promote social change.

Certificate Courses

The Centre also conducts Certificate Courses in Gender and Development periodically to meet special needs as required by individuals and corporate organizations. These include the Bespoke Residential Certificate Course, a 4-week training in gender and development that includes gender studies modules, and modules in gender issues in law, human services, agriculture, health, public policy, science and technology, the arts, education, politics and economics. Also, short trainings of corporate, governmental and non-governmental organizations’ staff  in collaboration with the Policy Innovation Centre (PIC), under the National Economic Summit Group (NESG), Abuja, Nigeria come up twice in Abuja on yearly basis.
